Dr. Michael Pravetz is the medical director of Occudocs. After an initial academic career in Sociology, he pursued medical training at Wits. His interests in medicine are varied, including anaesthetics, psychiatry, general practice and most recently occupational medicine. His interest in legal medicine prompted his studying law, and culminated in an LLB (with distinction) in 2006.
DrPravetz, besides being an occupational medical practitioner, is a Level 2 Diving Medical Officer, a Senior Designated Aviation Medical Examiner, and has completed the diploma in Travel Medicine. His wide spectrum of medical experiences contribute to the full services offered at Occudocs. He was recently appointed consultant psychiatrist to SAUHMA (Southern African Underwater and Hyperbaric Medical Association).
While practicing Forensic Psychiatry, he developed an expertise in Forensic Psychophysiology, the formal term for lie detection utilizing a polygraph. He studied at the Academy for Scientific Investigative Training in Philadelphia, USA, and has been on the faculty. He is one of the very few physicians ever to be a member of the American Polygraph Association.
